Lonnie Eugene Hagen Lonnie Eugene Hagen

Lonnie Eugene Hagen was born on June 7, 1952 in Roseau to LuVerne and June Hagen, the 2nd of 6 children. Lonnie farmed with his dad while growing up and after graduating from Badger School. He and his sisters liked the challenge of riding the calves in their pens. They could never stay on, so Lonnie came up with the idea of tying his sister Sherry’s ankles together underneath the calf’s belly. This plan didn’t work like he thought (or maybe did as he planned) and Sherry slid under the calf and was drug through the manure. That was just one of his brainy ideas! Lonnie and his dad eventually formed L&L Hagen Farms Inc. and farmed together until Lonnie moved to Burnsville, MN. Before moving, he also worked for Polaris and raced snowmobiles and stock cars.

While living in Burnsville, Lonnie worked at a variety of jobs. He worked and traveled with Ron Foss setting up Old Country Buffet restaurants, and he worked for many years selling vehicles and doing bodywork. He started his Limousine Service, and he had the opportunity to give rides to celebrities such as Prince, Tim Newton of the Minnesota Vikings, whom he became good friends with, and his nephew Shawn on his prom night. Lonnie loved watching all sports, but especially our Minnesota teams. It was after meeting Tim Newton that Lonnie started collecting sports cards and memorabilia. The love for collecting cards became very apparent when we had to haul his many boxes and totes up from the basement containing thousands of cards!

Lonnie also worked for a landscape company where he learned to love gardening. He was often the source of knowledge to his family whenever gardening questions arose. Before moving back to Badger, he worked for JD’s Seamless Siding Co. in Bemidji. Lonnie’s ultimate love was farming, and he helped Jordan Foss work with his pigs and harvesting until forced into retirement. He also cut and sold wood and worked for John Evitts company Gutter Guys. He loved planting and taking care of the vegetable garden and helping with his mom’s flower gardens.

In October 2023, Lonnie moved into LifeCare Greenbush Manor in Greenbush where he received the best care until he passed away. Lonnie passed away surrounded by his loving family on August 7, 2024, at LifeCare Greenbush Manor in Greenbush at the age of 72.
