Robert (Bob) Bryan Gjovik, 76
Robert (Bob) Bryan Gjovik age 76 of Lakeville, MN passed from this world to his eternal home with Christ on Tuesday, December 27, 2022.
Bob was born in Roseau, MN on September 8, 1946 to Roy and Gladys Gjovik of Strathcona, MN and was raised on the family farm. He graduated from Greenbush High School and from Northland Community College and Vocational School in Thief River Falls, MN where he studied electronics.
In 1968, he married Gayle Quern of Oslo, MN. Son Tim was born in 1970 and son Cory in 1972. Shortly before his death and after 54 years of marriage, he said to his son that he’d enjoyed every minute spent with Gayle.
Bob began his career as a computer programmer working for Univac, which later became Lockheed and after 29 years joined Northwest/Delta Airlines in the computer field until he retired in 2010. He thoroughly enjoyed his work related travel throughout the US and the world, especially time spent in Norway and Germany.
Music played a major role in Bob’s life. He enjoyed wonderful times singing with his family and with The Kings Messengers, a group of young people in his home church in Strathcona. He was always active at church in various capacities, but always involved in the music department. He played guitar or sang on numerous albums and remembered those experiences as highlights of his life.
Bob loved to have fun, especially riding his motorcycle, skiing with his sons, or traveling with his wife. He was a fan of Nascar and visiting the Nascar Hall of Fame in Charlotte NC was a highlight of his last trip. He really enjoyed his years spent in Arizona as a snowbird living near his 3 sisters. While living there he learned to play pickle ball and enjoyed playing nearly every day, until his health prevented him from doing so
Bob is survived by his wife Gayle and sons Tim and Cory (JoAnn), a brother Jim (June) Gjovik and 3 sisters Carole (Marc) Selness, Renae Peters, Lois (Wally) Dahoud as well as brothers-in law Darryl (Lenaye) Quern and Vaughn (Linda) Quern and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Grant, two infant siblings, Robert Sheldon and Renay Sharon and his brother-in-law Dan Peters.
We will remember his easy smile and quick laughter, but most of all his kind and loving nature.
A memorial service was held Saturday January 7, 2023 at South Suburban Evangelical Free Church Apple Valley, MN
