Roger Dale Klemetson was born on March 1st, 1951, in Greenbush, MN, the 6th child to Bertha (Roberts) and Hansel Klemetson. He was baptized and confirmed at United Free Lutheran Church in Greenbush and attended school and graduated from Greenbush High School, in 1969. After high school, Roger worked for Control Data in Minneapolis, MN. and then he moved back home to work at Polaris Industries in Roseau until he enlisted into the Navy in April 1970. Roger was united in marriage to Elizabeth Sobotta in October 1971 and the two later divorced in 1973, having a son, Kevin Dale Klemetson on May 4th, 1972. Following Roger’s discharge from the Navy in 1974, he returned to Greenbush, and worked for a farmer and worked in construction. Roger married Faye Marie Clark (Karlstad) at United Free Lutheran Church in Greenbush on June 13, 1981, and the two made their home in Badger, MN. To this union 3 children were born: Tyler Dale Klemetson was born on July 17, 1986, who passed away September 28, 1986, Brady Dale Klemetson (Kate) was born on August 4, 1987, and Sami Jo Klemetson was born on December 22, 1989. Presently Roger was working for Roseau County Coop Association, delivering propane, among other things, until his death at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks ND, January 25, 2024, at the age of 72.
Roger was a VFW Commander in Roseau, MN. from 1986 to 1988 and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was the Quartermaster at the Roseau VFW, a member for over 45 years. and was also a member of the Greenbush American Legion for over 35 years. Roger loved to hunt and fish, collect guns, and also liked to help with the bingo at the VFW on Friday nights for many many years. Roger loved his work and was a very social person who loved to share stories with his many friends and customers.
He is survived by his wife Faye of Badger, MN, Sons Brady (Kate) Klemetson of Gardner, ND., Kevin (Michelle) Klemetson of Lakewood, WA., Daughter Sami Jo Klemetson of Fargo, ND, Grandchildren Bohdi, Sunny, Navy Klemetson, Sister Audrey (Frank) Christianson of Cavalier, ND, Brother Gary Klemetson of Thief River Falls, MN, Sister Beverly (Greg) Underdahl of Viking, MN. Brother-in-Law: Mike Burkel of Thief River Falls, MN, along with many nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Family: Tyler Dale Klemetson (Son) 1986, Harlan Klemetson (Brother) 1988, Bertha Klemetson (Mother) 1992, Hansel Klemetson (Father) 1998, Wayne Klemetson (Brother) 2010, Jett Joshua Klemetson (Grandson) 2017 (in infancy), Joyce Burkel (sister) 2020.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or the Roger Klemetson Family.
A Memorial service will be held at 2PM, Saturday, February 3, 2024, at United Free Lutheran Church in Greenbush with Pastor David Neimela presiding.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.
Interment services will be held at Badger Creek Cemetery at a later date.
Military Honors are accorded by the Greenbush American Legion Post #88, Roseau Honor Guard, and the Minnesota National Guard.
