Arlend John Harder passed away surrounded by family at LifeCare Medical Center on October 20, 2023 in Roseau, MN.
Arlend was born on May 5, 1932 to John and Meta (Kruse) Harder in Bennington, NE. He graduated from High School in 1950 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy January 18th, 1952 and was honorably discharged December 19th, 1955. Arlend married Grace Black on October 21, 1952. They lived and farmed near Fort Calhoun, Nebraska, and had 5 children together; Debby, Steve, Linda, Cherie, and Cindy.
In the spring of 1972, Arlend and Steve moved to Badger, MN to plant roots and established their farm, Harder Farms. Arlend loved farming; it was his livelihood and him and Steve farmed together until he sold the farm to Steve in 1996.
Aside from being a lifelong farmer, Arlend enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles, and stopping at the casino. Mostly, he went for the great company and visiting till all hours of the night. He traveled to Las Vegas, NV numerous times and still had his collection of coins that he subtly would slip into birthday cards for his grandkids and great grandkids.
One of his trips to the casino paid out big when he met his love, Jeannette. On January 26th, 2002, Arlend married Jeannette Bourcier and they spent the rest of his living years making a life together. They spent time traveling, visiting Jeannette’s family in Canada, attending many family birthdays, holidays, and many country rides together.
Arlend will be remembered by many area farmers in his legendary white, Chevy pickup. He would make his rounds throughout the sections checking on all the farm progress; spring, summer, and fall. He was never in a hurry and always showed up just when his grandson, John, needed a ride.
Arlend is survived by his wife, Jeannette. His children, Steve (Sandy) Harder of Greenbush, Linda (Royce) Delozier of Hooper, NE, Cherie Anderson of Fremont, NE, Cindy Harder of Fremont, NE.
