Mancer David Flaten was born September 29, 1942 at home in Huss Township, Strathcona MN where he attended a country school, went on to Greenbush School and graduated from Crookston Ag School. He was married to Gabriel and later divorced. He raised her daughter Jamie Terese. He also married and divorced Joanne. He has lived in Pembroke VA for the last 15 years with his special friend Carolyn.

Dave worked as a salesman in Wisconsin, Alaska, and Pennsylvania. He came to appreciate the people in Costa Rica during his travels there.

He worked as a carpenter traveling to Florida, North and South Carolina. He found his niche in that field by finishing the woodwork on banks and commercial buildings. Dave enjoyed seeing the wood grains come to life and wished he had discovered that skill earlier in life.

When his health deteriorated, Carolyn became his faithful caretaker. David died of heart problems at the age of 79 on August 21, 2022 at Lewis Gayle Hospital, Salem VA.
He was preceded in death by brother Sheldon (age 3), Parents Mancer C. Flaten, Nora (Gjovik) Flaten and sister Karen Jacobs (July 26, 2022). He is survived by sister Maryl (Neal) Scott at New Richland MN, nieces Tara Newton, Darcie Burgoyne, Catherine Scott, 2 nephews Shawn Haugen and Jerry Scott.

The graveside service will be at Poplar Grove Cemetery, Strathcona MN on September 24 at 1 PM with Pastor Mark Erickson officiating. Memorials preferred to Gideons International.
