Alvin Delano Sather
Alvin Delano Sather passed away on June 27, 2026 at LifeCare Greenbush Manor. Alvin was born in Greenbush, MN on May 8, 1938, to Alfred and Deborah (Graff) Sather. He attended school in Greenbush. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethania Lutheran Church.
He joined the Air Force and following his discharge he married Marcella (Marcie) Puttbrese on June 3, 1958, in Strathcona, MN. In 1960, they moved to Illinois where Alvin worked as a farm laborer before he became a mechanic at Punk’s Firestone. In 1969, they returned to Greenbush, MN to help on the family farm. Alvin farmed with his brother Dean for a number of years before he and Marcie started Northern Agri Sales. While they owned and operated Northern Agri Sales, Avin entered seminary school at the Association of Free Lutheran (AFLC) Bible College & Seminary in Plymouth, MN and was ordained on August 25, 2002. He served several congregations through the years including United Free Lutheran Church, Greenbush, MN; Bethany Lutheran Church, Bemidji, MN; Warroad Free Lutheran, Warroad, MN; Pinecreek and Concordia Lutheran Churches, Badger, MN; Pukwana Free Lutheran Church; Pukwana, SD & St. Olaf Free Lutheran Church, Chamberlain, SD; Oiland Lutheran and Badger Creek Free Lutheran Church. Pastor Alvin had the pleasure of officiating in all three of his children’s weddings as well as other family members and baptizing multiple grandchildren (and great grandchildren). Alvin continued his ministry and served during his retirement.
Alvin and Marcie lived in 32 different homes during their 66 years of marriage and did everything together. Marcie passed away on September 6, 2024. Over the years, Alvin enjoyed woodworking, restoring tractors, fishing, and yard work.
He is survived by sons Aldyn (Brenda) Sather and Rick (Trish) Sather and daughter Tracy (Nathan) Halbakken, 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, brother Clark (Sandra) Sather, and brother-in-law Felix Korczak.
Al is proceeded in death by wife, Marcie, his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Carmen Sather and sister Eunice Korczak.
Funeral services werel held at 10:00 AM, Monday, July 6th at United Free Lutheran Church of Greenbush. Visitation was held one hour prior to service at the church. Interment services were held at Old Bethania Cemetery of rural Greenbush.
