Obituary/Verna Kay Monsrud (Gramstad) Obituary/Verna Kay Monsrud (Gramstad)

Verna was born October 25, 1938, in Gatzke, Minnesota, the daughter of Rueben and Ellen (Larson) Gramstad. She grew up in Gatzke and later moved to Badger during her teenage years, where she attended school through the eighth grade.
On February 24, 1955, Verna was united in marriage to Willard Monsrud in Steinbach, Manitoba. The couple moved onto the homestead where they farmed and raised their family. Verna worked tirelessly alongside Willard, helping with all aspects of farm life — working the fields, milking cows, planting large gardens, and canning and freezing the harvest.
Later in life, Verna and Willard were partners in D & M Liquors for eight years. She was also a longtime member of the Eagles Auxiliary.
Verna enjoyed bird watching from her dining room window, fishing as a welcome break from the busy farming life, and going out dancing with Willard on Saturday nights. They also spent more than 20 winters enjoying time in Florida. An occasional trip to the casino was always welcomed.
Verna loved her family deeply and was proud of each of them. She kept in close contact with friends and family through daily phone calls and text messages. Her regular phone visits with Philamay and Ruthy were especially treasured.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Willard; her sister, Darlene; her son, Wayne Dale; and many other beloved family members.
She is survived by her children, Karen (Loren) Melby of Badger, Bev Monsrud of Monticello, Allan (Pam) Monsrud of Badger, and Merlyn (Laura) Monsrud of Hayesville, North Carolina;
her grandchildren, Shanon (Angie) Monsrud of Badger, Garett (Barb) Monsrud of Badger, Jamie (Nicki) Melby of Anoka, Gabe (Katie) Melby of Belle Plaine, Brandon and Andy Worel of Monticello, Jillian (Skylar) DePriest of Jacksonville, Florida, and Meghan Monsrud of Blairsville, Georgia;
her great-grandchildren, Olivia (Nate) Broten, Isabella, Elijah, Ezra, Russell, Justin, Madison (Charlie) Melby, Lilli, Mackenzie, Myles, Sylas, and Abbigail;
and her great-great-grandchildren, Beau, Lola, Sophie, and Elijah.
