Kim Michael Emery, the son of Delford and Ileen (Wahl) Emery, was born August 26, 1959, in Roseau, MN. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith and confirmed at Oiland Free Lutheran Church, rural Greenbush, MN. Kim attended school in Greenbush, MN graduating with the class of 1977.
Following high school, Kim went to work at Marvins in Warroad, MN. He later left to pursue his passion in Nature Conservancy at the University of Minnesota Crookston, receiving an Associate Degree in Applied Science.
Kim returned to his home area in Roseau County. He began working at Polaris Industries where he was a painter and then went into paint maintenance. He was passionate about working on products that got people outdoors.
There, he met Jim Nordby, who introduced him to his beautiful sister, Kimberly Ann Nordby, in the summer of 1987. It was love at first sight. On April 21, 1990, the couple were married at the Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, MN. They lived for a short time in rural Roseau before creating their dream home and settling west of Badger, MN. To this union, two beautiful daughters were born, Kelsey and Kaitlyn.
Kim’s greatest joy was being a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandpa. Kim enjoyed fishing, hunting, tenting with family, trapping, demolition derbies, snowmobiling, and studying the history of the land and waters.
He especially loved planting trees and spending time outdoors. Kim’s favorite place to be in nature was Juneberry, which he called, “God’s Country.” He shared and taught his love of the outdoors with his daughters.
Kim was a selfless, caring, humble, honest, and giving man who always thought about others before himself. “That’s what neighbors do.” He had a heart of gold.
Kim was a member of the Oiland Free Lutheran Church where he served on the council and was also active with the Greenbush-Badger Lions Club, where he served multiple officer roles. He was passionate about serving his community. Following his retirement, Kim spent a summer mowing ditches for Roseau County.
