A Memorial Service for Nicholas A. Straw will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at 11:00AM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Nicholas Straw passed away on August 20, 2024 at his home in Lancaster, MN at the age of 44.

Nicholas Alexander Straw was born on February 19, 1980 to Gerald and Vera (Skripnik) Straw in Minneapolis, MN. He worked at Vinge Tile from 1998 to 2005. In 2006 he moved to Moorhead and worked at Lincoln Tile in the Fargo Moorhead area. After his father, Gerald, passed away he moved back to Minneapolis in October 2007 to support his mother and family, where he worked for his uncle Kevin with his lawn business. In September 2008 Nick moved to Roseau with Emily, and they welcomed their first of 3 children, Olivia Marie Straw in August of 2009. In September 2009, they moved to the farm, next door to Emily’s parents Pete and Sally Beito. Nick spent several years working on the family farm, assisting with the grain and cattle operation, and attending school at NCTC for his welding certificate. After graduating with his welding certificate Nick worked at Polaris Industries until the birth of their daughter, Olivia in August of 2009.

Nick continued to work on the farm and in 2010 started work at Hansons Manufacturing in Lancaster. Eventually, he became a substitute-wielding teacher at NCTC. In 2017 Nick started working at Digikey in Thief River Falls.

On March 11, 2011 he married Emily Beito at Blessed Sacrament in Greenbush, MN

Nick had four children, Josh Seifert in 1997, Olivia Straw in 2009, Isaac Straw in 2012 and Everett Straw in 2017. He was a beloved father who loved all his children deeply.

Nick loved cooking, gardening, computers, trivia, music, engineering, technology, tinkering, learning, space, and the stars.

He is survived by his wife Emily Straw and their children; mother, Vera Straw; brothers Jesse and Michael Straw; and grandmother Ekatherine Skipnik.

Nick was preceded in death by his father, Gerald; grandparents Marie and Jim Straw, and Valentin Skripnik; uncles, Charles Straw, Michael Straw, Patrick Straw, and Dave Westveer; and auntie Zina Westveer.
